The Foresteria dell'Abbazia is an ancient residence that is part of the historical complex of the Benedictine monastery of S. Michele Arcangelo, founded in the 12th century, which welcomed travelers and pilgrims in search of hospitality. It is located in the heart of the historic center of Montescaglioso, near Porta S. Angelo, where ancient trails intersect that cross the "Parco delle Chiese Rupestri del Materano" and lead to Matera - the city of Sassi - recently designated as the European Capital of Culture 2019, only 12 km away.
